Class 5, had an eventful non-stop day on Friday 29th June at RAF Cosford. We started the day with a rockets workshop, we then enjoyed the 'Fun and Flight' section of the museum. After lunch we had our World War 2 workshop, where we got the chance to look at real artefacts, clothing and shelters.
Class 4 had a WILD time at Dudley Zoo, learning about how to classify animals. With our partners, we looked at different types of animals and decided which class they were part of.
To bring an end to our Roman History topic this term, class 3 were lucky enough to visit Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery where they thoroughly enjoyed hands on experience with real Roman artefacts and become real life Romans. This included a number of activities such as dressing up as the Roman's did, marching as Roman soldiers and discovering many different remains that have been found in Britain to come to their own conclusion about how they lived their lives. Thank you Class 3 for a wonderful day of joy and representing our school so beautifully!
Year 5 and 6 went on an exciting trip the NEC's Big Bang Science Fair. It was a busy day and a lot of fun was had ranging from speed tunnels racing against Usain Bolt, to RAF planes. We went around the fair in small groups so we were able to take part in all the activities they had to offer. Some Year 6's even got the chance to make a vehicle, where as some Year 5's got their heart and brain function measured.
Four children in Year 6 attended the Lego competition at RAF Cosford! During the full and fun packed day the children had to build a robot for their first task , which had to have an attachment that allowed it to carry a cup of water over a circuit that was already set out, and each person in the group was observed on their input to the project. During the afternoon and their second task, they had to create a robot that would be good at playing football. After playing many teams, they reached the final and were runners up. The teams were being observed over the day for teamwork, speed, ideas and completing the tasks. When they had finally gathered all the marks at the end of a fun packed day, Palmers Cross Primary were announced the winners.
Well done, we are very proud of you!
Year 5 have been practising their cooking skills at Aldersley!
Week 1 We made apple crumble today.
Week 2 We made pizza bread.
We made delicious, fresh bread. We learnt what is needed to make bread rise, how to kneed and how to glaze the dough to give it a lovely golden look. We have also developed our team work to ensure we wash up after ourselves.
Year 5 have been cooking again - butter biscuits were on the menu this week. Yummy!
Reception and Year 1 went to Cannock Chase Museum to visit Mrs Claus and celebrated Christmas making decorations, writing Christmas letters and making winter bird feeders to feed the animals. We had a wonderful and busy day looking and helping Mrs Claus.
What a fantastic evening! Four Class 6 boys took on the challenge of the 2017 Lego competition. They had to build a vehicle ensuring they followed the building instructions fully. They also used teamwork, determination and excellent communication skills. After 2 hours building and programming their vehicle in three separate challenges the boys are through to the final coming second place. Bring on the final in February.
The children had a fantastic time at the Michael Rosen theatre visit.
It was a language rich environment, which we are sure will inspire their own creative writing.
The children were extremely well behaved and a real credit to our school.
Year 3 had a fantastic time at Telford Park along with their Year 3 peers from across the Elston Hall Academy Trust.
The children certainly brought the science of forces to life!
