Welcome to Reception.
We hope you have had an exciting and enjoyable summer.
In Reception we are active learners and over the autumn term we will be supporting your children to settle into their new environment and routine as well as introducing them to their learning. The children will be given many opportunities to develop their critical thinking, explore their own skills and actively learn. This will continue throughout their time in Reception. Within literacy the children will develop their phoneme, word and sentence construction and develop their letter formation. Mathematics will develop their number recognition skills, counting accurately and solving practical number problems alongside forming the numbers correctly. Our topic will focus on learning about Ourselves and developing our communication, understanding, exploration and design skills through a range of activities such as role play, art skill development and discussion time.
Your child will be taught through a mixture of teacher led, teacher guided and child initiated learning, both indoors and outdoors.
Please ensure your child brings their coat to school each day so they are suitably clothed for outdoor activities (wellingtons if wet weather). PE kits will be kept in school and sent home PE kits at the end of each term.
In Reception our learning takes place though a mix of adult led and child initiated sessions indoors and outdoors. The children guide our learning wherever possible.
Please remember to put your child’s name in their uniform and PE kit.
On Wednesdays we will be taking our learning outdoors as we take part in woodland activities. The children will spend each week engaging in exciting learning experiences such as den building, mud painting, woodland games and mini beast safaris, making collections and handling a variety of natural materials.
We will be outdoors in all weathers, so we recommend that they bring their own wellies and that they wear warm play or old clothes. Children will change into these clothes to ensure uniforms remain intact.
Monday Stay and Play
During the autumn term your child will be given the opportunity to stay behind after school to play with their friends on Mondays from 18.9.17 – 27.11.17. The session is free and will be from 3pm – 4pm within the Early Years area of school.
In Reception, we love to know what your child can do at home as well as in school. Your child will be bringing home ‘Proud Clouds’ for you to fill in when they do something very special at home.
As you may be aware, throughout the year we gather evidence of your child’s learning across the 7 areas of learning. We would like you to be able to contribute to these over the year as we know that lots of learning takes place at home too. You can do this by filling in a ‘Proud cloud’ to share your child’s achievements at home.
When you have filled in a ‘Proud Cloud’ please give it to their teacher.
What can I write about?
Examples of achievements you might like to tell us about are:
• a child dressing themselves or using a knife and fork
• a child sharing and taking turns with siblings e.g. when playing a game
• a child pointing out letters or numbers they recognise in the environment
• a child finding all the rhyming words in a story you have shared at home
• a child achieving an award at a club
• a child carefully making a colourful card for their Grandma
How do I fill in a proud cloud and where do I get them from?
All we need is a sentence to explain briefly why you are pleased with your child, your signature and the date. We will send them out every half term through the year, if you require one at any other time please ask.
If you have any questions about proud clouds please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff.
We operate an open door policy, so please do not hesitate to speak to myself, if you have any queries or concerns, I will be available at 8:30am and end of school 3:00pm.
We look forward to fun filled learning experience with your child.
